The African Development Bank (AfDB), the premier pan-African development institution, has opened applications for its prestigious Young Professionals Program (YPP). This program is designed for exceptional young professionals with a passion for Africa's development and transformation.

The YPP is not just a job; it is a 3-year leadership development program. It aims to build a pipeline of future leaders who will deliver on the Bank’s "Ten-Year Strategy" to reduce poverty and drive inclusive growth across the continent.


Program Structure: The 3-Year Journey

The program utilizes a Rotation System to ensure YPs gain a broad understanding of the Bank's operations. The three-year timeline includes:

  • Rotation 1 (1 Year): Demonstrate Applied Knowledge. You start in a complex aligned with your core skills.
  • Rotation 2 (1 Year): Stretch and Learn. You move to a different area to broaden your expertise.
  • Rotation 3 (9 Months): Transition. You settle into the department where you will eventually graduate.

Graduation: Upon successful completion of the rotations and learning modules, YPs are integrated into the Bank's workforce at the PL5 grade level.


Strategic Focus Areas for 2026

The Bank is recruiting specifically for disciplines aligned with its "High 5" priorities and "Four Cardinal Points." Key areas include:

  • Technology: IT Management, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cybersecurity.
  • Development: Agriculture, Human Capital, Youth Employment, Economics.
  • Operations: Engineering, Procurement, Project Management.
  • Finance & Governance: Risk Management, Investment Management, Legal, Corporate Governance.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

Competition is intense. Applicants must meet the following strict minimum requirements:

1. Citizenship & Age

  • Must be a citizen of a Member Country of the Bank (India is a member country).
  • Must be 32 years of age or younger by the closing date (December 31, 2025).

2. Education

  • Must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with outstanding academic credentials.

3. Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant post-graduate work experience.
  • Hands-on experience on the African continent or in other developing regions is a significant advantage.

4. Language & Mobility

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English or French (knowledge of both is an asset).
  • Willingness to live in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, or any other country where the Bank requires services.
