The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. They are currently seeking a Communications Intern to join their Regional Office for West Asia, based in Beirut, Lebanon.

This is a prestigious opportunity to work directly under the supervision of the Regional Information Officer. You will assist in shaping the narrative around sustainable development and environmental protection in the West Asia region. As an intern in the Beirut office, you will support the team in monitoring and implementing critical communication tasks. Your daily duties will include:

1. Media Monitoring & Research

You will keep the office informed about the region's environmental pulse.

• Press Monitoring: Assist with daily press monitoring and collection of information on environmental issues across the West Asia region.
• Research: Perform research-related duties to support the office's strategic goals.

2. Content Creation

• Social Media: Support fetching and developing engaging content for social media platforms.
• Drafting: Assist with the drafting of information materials and press releases.

3. Administrative Support

• coordination: Update communications lists of events and maintain the editorial calendar.
• General Support: Assist with other business tasks as requested by the Regional Information Officer.

The UN has specific academic and language requirements for its internship programme.

1. Educational Background

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Be enrolled in a Graduate school programme (Master's or Ph.D.).
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree programme.
• Have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree.

Preferred Fields of Study: Communications, Journalism, Design, or a related field.

2. Language Skills (Mandatory)

• Arabic: Fluency is REQUIRED.
• English: Fluency is REQUIRED.
• French: Knowledge of French is desirable but not mandatory.

3. Core Competencies

• Tech Skills: Must be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Cultural Fit: Must demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and the ability to interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

• Unpaid: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
• Expenses: All costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses in Beirut are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
