This is a unique High School Internship designed to give Juniors and Seniors real-world exposure to the healthcare environment. Unlike typical shadowing roles, this position involves hands-on rotational duties, allowing students to operate equipment, assist with patient care, and work alongside medical professionals in a fast-paced hospital setting.
Detailed Role & Key Responsibilities
As a Student Intern, you will rotate through various departments, gaining a broad understanding of hospital operations. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Clinical & Operational Support
You will be an active part of the care team, not just an observer.
Patient Care: Interact with and assist patients as dictated by the department. This may include gathering patient data, collecting specimens, and handling medications (under supervision).
Equipment Handling: Operate hospital equipment and handle instruments/supplies, including biological testing according to established procedures.
Logistics: Gather patient supplies, restock carts, and clean workstations to promote safety.
2. Communication & Admin
Professionalism: Communicate professionally with hospital visitors, providers, and staff.
Documentation: Complete department-specific documentation and transcribe phone messages accurately.
Math Skills: Perform basic mathematical calculations required for departmental tasks.

2. Physical Requirements
Healthcare is physically demanding. Candidates must be capable of:
Strength: Lifting up to 60 lbs and pushing carts weighing over 200 lbs.
Endurance: Standing and walking for 4 to 12 hours per day (greater than 80% of the shift).
Senses: Visual/oral acuity and the ability to distinguish colors (essential for reading labels and monitors).
3. Environment & Safety
Hazards: Willingness to work in an environment with potential exposure to biohazards, communicable diseases, and bodily fluids (with proper PPE).
Pace: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where tasks are prioritized based on immediate patient needs.
