📝 Description:
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) is inviting applications for an Economic Affairs Internship based at the UN Headquarters in New York. This is a prestigious opportunity to work within the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO), directly contributing to the UN's global sustainable development goals.
While the role is primarily designed to be In-Person at the New York duty station, the UN offers flexibility. Depending on the candidate's situation, the internship can be adjusted to be Fully Remote, Hybrid, or Part-Time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interns work 35 hours per week (full-time) under the supervision of a staff member. You will support the department in:
Research & Analysis: conducting research on economic policies and sustainable development financing.
Data Management: Assisting in the compilation and analysis of economic data.
Documentation: Drafting and reviewing documents, reports, and policy briefs.
Meeting Support: Assisting in the organization of meetings and events related to the department's work.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
The UN Internship Programme has specific academic requirements. You must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Academic Status
Graduate Students: Be enrolled in (or have completed) a Master's or PhD programme.
Undergraduate Students: Be enrolled in (or have completed) the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree programme.
Field of Study: Your field of study must be closely related to Economic Affairs or Sustainable Development.
2. Experience & Language
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required.
Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
Flexible Work Arrangements
This internship is unique in its flexibility:
Standard: In-person, Full-time (New York).
Flexible Options: Remote, Hybrid, or Part-time arrangements can be requested and approved based on needs.
Important: Financial Information
This is an UNPAID internship.
Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs: All costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
Visa: Interns who are not US citizens/residents must obtain the appropriate visa (G-4 Visa is typical for UN interns).
