The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), a leading non-profit that has been fighting for women's rights since 1972, is seeking an Undergraduate Intern to support their Federal Child Care Policy team for Summer 2026.
This is a prestigious onsite internship in the heart of Washington, D.C., offering students a front-row seat to federal policymaking. You will work on critical issues regarding income security, early learning, and gender justice, helping to shape policies that support women and families across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
This is a substantive policy role. You won't just be filing papers; you will be engaging in real advocacy work.
1. Policy Research & Writing
Content Creation: Draft fact sheets, presentations, and blogs. You will be specifically tasked with researching and writing a blog post related to child care and early learning policy.
Research: Lead or support research efforts for ongoing advocacy projects.
2. Advocacy & Engagement
Hill & Coalition Meetings: Attend and summarize high-level meetings, including coalition gatherings and meetings with Capitol Hill staff and the Administration.
Advocacy: Gain exposure to the legislative process and how non-profits influence federal law.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
The NWLC is looking for passionate advocates with strong academic skills.
1. Academic Status
Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in an Undergraduate program.
2. Experience & Values
Gender Justice: Must have experience working on gender justice issues with an intersectional lens (understanding how race, class, and gender overlap).
Child Care Interest: Demonstrated interest or experience in child care and early learning policy is highly desired.
3. Skills
Communication: Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills are essential.
Work Style: Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with strong project management skills.
Compensation & Location
Pay Rate: $17.95 per hour.
Location: This is an Onsite role in Washington, D.C. Interns are expected to be present in the office to fully participate in meetings and advocacy events.
